WILLIAM HOGAN IS RULED OFF OFFXew Xew York July 5 Swift judgment has followed the in and out running of the Canadian steeple ¬ chaser Buckthorn at Belmont Park with the result that William Hogau the trainer of the horse has been ruled off the turf by the stewards of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association which exercises jurisdiction over the jumpers Hogan and jockev Kelleher were suspended at Eclmout Park be ¬ cause of the startling improvement shown by Buck ¬ thorn in a steeplechase on June 21 Hogan was the chief sufferer as the stewards merely approved of the suspension of Kelleher and ordered it continued up to and including today Buckthorn is owned by Bartlett McLennan a Canadian CanadianOn On June 13 Buckthorn showing excellent speed and never far from the pace finished a good third to L Navarre and Sir Clcges Just four days later Buckthorn could hardly raise a gallop and after being outrun all the way pulled up last being beaten bv Malaga Shannon River and Tom Cat After another rest of four days Buckthorn was sent to the jK st a wild horse and forcing all the pace was just nipped out In the last stride by Shannon River RiverWhen When llogan was called before the stewards after this running he admitted that he had tried to im ¬ prove Buckthorns gait by the use of whisky and coffee as a stimulant but he did not consider that he had violated any rules in doing so The stewards of the meeting held a different idea and his license was suspended and tlu case referred to the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association That Iwrty has found Hogan guilty and has banished him from the turf turfAt At this same meeting the stewards certificates as gentlemen riders were issued to Xorman Prince H Morris Adams and Francis W Sargent Jr The application of Percy Blake Faskally was granted subject to the approval of the Hunts Committee CommitteeJames James Johnston was licensed as a trainer and the following jockeys were granted licenses Lester Franklin T Howard E Krausc William II Taylor and B Haynes HaynesHenry Henry J Morris was appointed steward to repre ¬ sent the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association at the meeting of the Saratoga Association which is to continue through the month of August AugustJoseph Joseph E Davis was also appointed to represent S S Howland during the hitters absence abroad
