GETTING READY FOR FALL IN KENTUCKY KENTUCKYLouisville Louisville Ky August 5 Bustle and activity prevail at Douglas Park and Churchill Downs as workmen are busy getting the stables at the two plants in condition for the arrivel of horses coming here from Saratoga and the Canadian tracks late iu the month monthAt At both local courses an unusually large number of horses are summering Few of them will be shipped to Lexington to race the coming fall A number of prominent strings will come here as scon as the second meeting closes at Windsor toward the latter part of this mouth including the stable of II J Mackenzie MackenzieBoth Both tracks are at present in excellent condition for training and the majority of the horses now quartered here arc getting slow work in prepara ¬ tion for the fall racing campaign campaignAll All of the horses quartered at the two locil courses are apparently in healthy condition and many of them would be ready for racing with a week or two of severe training Several performers of nott that left Lalonia in u shaky condition have now rounded to and now show no signs of soreness or lameness James lamenessJames Grillin has one of the biggest strings of horses he has had in training for a long time most of them bred by the Illinois turfman J S McCul lougli They are quartered at Douglas Park and embrace the fouryearolds Chartier and Gabrio the threeyearolds Jacob Biinn Idle Tale Armiuda Side Light and Jack Savage the twoyearold May Libertv and the yearling colt Shils Knob Arminda is a sister to Czar while Side Light Is a brown lillv by Uncommon Searchlight by King ¬ ston Side Light is a half sister to the stake win ¬ ner Phantom Light Jack Savage is a black geld ¬ ing by Uncommon Lady Chariot by Pirate of Pen stance Gabrio Is a brown gelding by Nasturtium Obscurity by Kingston and May Liberty is a chestnut tilly by Hurst Park Liberty Bell by G W Johnson None of thnm has ever raced and most of them were not even broken for regular training until this smniher Shils Knob the only yearling trainer Gritlin has at present is a sightly looking chestnut colt by Hurst Park Felicity Murat by Dls guise II The dam of this joungster is a sister to that noted race in a re Melisando This colt is a Breeders Futurity candidate and Is highly re ¬ garded by his owner and trainer Two yearlings owned by this stable are at J S llarbees Glen Helen Farm near Lexington Those trainer Grillin will not take up until fall One Is a bay flllv bv Ben Brush Debacle and tho other a bay illy V Peep oDay Hurrah by Hanover Trainer Gritliii thinks well of all the horses he now has In chare and expects several of tlitm to acquit themselvw creditably during the coming fall campaign on the Kentucky tracks tracksWilliam William Gerst has a string of ten horses at Doug ¬ las Park which were left here by trainer George Ham In charge of Henry Hozeacher Ham is in Canada witli the rest of the Gerst string and the horses Itozeachcr has iu charge embrace eight two yearolds and one yearling yearlingLew Lew Marions horses including Prince Hermis Sam Hirsch and Verena are in the long barn at Douglas Park and are looking lusty and good Prince Ilermis will be entered for nil the big han ¬ dicaps at Douglas Park Churchill Downs and La tonia during the coming fall and it may be tho trainer will conclude to take a subscription for tlds threeyearold in the S15000 Kentucky Iftidur ance Stakes as Prince Hermis has shown marked ability as a stayer
