WILL TRY MUTUELS AT TIMONIUM TIMONIUMHalf Half Mile Track Meeting Will Inaugurate Fall Rac ing Season in Maryland Baltimore Md August 14 The race program just issued for the Timoniuni Fair Septemlier 2 to J inclusive marks a new departure in the proceedings of that Baltimore County timehonored Agricultural Society Heretofore the racing has lieen of a mixed order made up of light harness and running events This season however the harness events have been cut out and the whole card will be given over to the thoroughbred thoroughbredThe The management has started out In a businesslike way to give an uptodate race meeting in connec ¬ tion with its fair and will make this department of its exhibition not a mere side how but one of the star features Good purses with one or more 500 handicaps have been offered with a view to attract ¬ ing the best of the horses racing over the smaller tracks Officials thoroughly competent and experienced have been engaged and the meeting will be con ¬ ducted under the Jockey Club rules and along tlie same lines as are laid down for the big tracks tracksThe The betting will be under tlie pariuiutuel system Many have thought that this method would not suc ¬ ceed on the halfmile tracks but the Tlmoniuin people after a careful survey of the situation be ¬ lieve they can make it pay Good judges who watched the operation of tlie mututls at Electric Park last spring have faith that tht fair people are right rightIt It seems to be the opinion of the best i osted that the only thing needed is the horses If the Ti mouluni people will only present good fields of horses each day tlie people Will patronize tin umtuels The experiment at any rate will be watched with deep interest and its result will do much to influence the action of the managers of the Gentlemens Driving Park and Prospect Park wh have cut out their racing from a fear that they would lose money under the parimutiiel system systemThe The Tinioninm card calls for five races dully for the first two days and six on the other days ex ¬ cept the last when eight races will be carded A steeplechase will be a dally feature featureOn On the opening day there will be a Hat race for army ofiicers and on the third day a steeplechase will be provided for Uncle Sams boys Already as ¬ surances have lieeln received that these events will be well filled filledThe The program provides for many races at a mile or over These are pleasing to the public but they may not suit the kind of horses which usually patronize a halfmile track nnd Which are better suited to the shorter distances The management however will change the onili lions to suit the views of the owners if found necessary necessaryTimonium Timonium will start the fall racing season in Maryland and will be immediately followed by Havre de Grace Then comes Laurel and then the windup at Pimlico making continuous racing dur ¬ ing tlie months of September and October and part of November
