THE CASTLETON STUD DISPERSAL SALE To the lover of horse breeding the catalogue of the horses belonging to the estate of the late James R Keene which are to be sold at Madison Square Garden New York liegiiiniug September 2 is a decidedly interesting publication For one regret able thing it marks the obliteration of the famous Castlelon Stud but natural regret in this ease is mitigated by the comforting rctlection that the su ¬ perb horses to be sold will remain in this country to assist in the restoration of a much reduced but highly important breeding industry There have been many notable sales in the past in this country1 but such as the Belmont Ix rillard Marcus Daly and other important dispersal sales took place when racing was in a condition of great prosperity and liigh prices were a certainty in advance Conditions are so different now that lively curiosity as to what such a korse as Colin will bring under the auction vets hammer will be widespread He is the star ot the sale presumptively but so far as stallions are con cerned this Kecne sale is a remarkable affair with such other famous ones us Celt Delhi Disguise Voter Peter Pan Hippodrome Sweep and Ultimus to be also disposed of to the highest bidder Voter is the veteran of this distinguished bund having been foaled in 1894 but the others are all young horses and bound to exercise an important influence hereafter In the propagation of others stamped with their own splendid attributes attributesBesides Besides the nine stallions named thirtyone brood ¬ mares will be sold Of these fifteen have been mated Miith Voter including Ballots dam Cerito four have been bred to Celt three to Disguise three to Sweep two to Hippodrome one each to Ultimus Ben Brush and Delhi and one to Ballot and Colin The latter is the youHg mare Playmate by Peter Pan Bi turica which raced in England last year under the name of Wendy Lady and was bred to both of the stallions named last spring prior to being brought baqk to this country Many of the mares are of worldwide fame the dam of Colin Ballot Sweep Nankeen Outrara and Castletou and the Epsom Oaks winner Cap and Bells being in the list Seven foals ofcthis year are also to be sold Elsewhere particu larsrof this notable Impending sale are published in this issue of Daily Racing Form
