MOST VALUABLE STAKES OF THIS YEAR IN AMERICA -. ; . : It is an encouraging sign of the times that no less than sixty-seven stakes, carrying a net value of f2,000 or over to the winner, have been run in the United States, Canada and Mexico during the present year, as compared with only twenty-seven during 1012. Last year no stake reached a value of 0,000 to the winner. This year there were two that exceeded that figure. The richest stake of the year was the Coney Island Jockey Clubs Futurity, run at Saratoga, and carrying, a net value of 5,060 to the winner. The other stake whose value exceeded 0,000 was the Kentucky Handicap, a new fixture run for the first time at Douglas Park, which yielded .the winner 2,150.
