LONG SHOTS SCORE AT CHARLESTON. York Lad and Earl of Savoy, Both Quoted at Liberal Odds, Win Handicaps. Charleston, S. C, February 111. Two selling handicaps, one at three-quarters and the other at one mile and seventy yards, were offered as features by the Charleston Fair and Racing Association at Palmetto Park this afternoon. Both provided interesting contests. The longer of the two resulted in a furious stretch drive between Earl of Savoy and Feather Duster, in which the former, thanks to jockey Turners excellent liuish, wou by a scant half length. Feather Duster was probably best, but McTaggart made a mistake by going wide on the lirst turn and then rushing his mount to the front in the backstretch racing. Feather Duster was timed the second quarter in -4. which was a killing pace considering the state of the going. The result was that when Turner made his effort with Earl of Savoy in the homestretch Feather Duster had nothing left "to withstand the challenge and he lost a purse that he should have won. Coppertown was another horse whose chances were not improved by the ride he got. The apprentice rider, F. .Miirnhy. seemed coutent to take the outside route with him and in the stretch racing, when he appeared to have third place at his mercy, his rider handled him so listlessly that he was beaten by Rye Straw for the show, "lie winner of this race Turned up in York Lad, which scored in a cau- Toni King, which appears to race befler ou Satur-dav than on any other day, scored another victory ibis afternoon at long odds.
