DERBY CANDIDATES AT LEXINGTON Lexington Ky March 15 Eighteen of the sixty eight eligible to the next Kentucky Derby arc in training at the Kentucky Association track here and that represents one more than the number in training at Louisville where the race for the highly coveted prize to be run Not a few people are of the opinion that the winner may lie among the maidensThe eighteen only two of which are maidens The most conspicuous of this collection of good threeyearolds is Senator Johnson N Camdens oneeyed colt Luke winner of last years Breeders Iiiturlty Ho is being pointed for the Derby by that veteran trainer Peter Wiminin and yesterday morning he worked hi lirst mile of this year in 1 It is not to be expected that Solly his recently injured stable companion will get to tlie post in the Derby but he is improving rapidly and it is now said that he will be able to race by fall at least leastJ J S Hawkins is training two of the ellgibles Chalmers and Hank ODay Nith of which are doing famously Chalmers was second to Luke in the Breeders Futurity and won more races eight than any other candidate Hank ODay now the prop ¬ erty of Mr Hawkins is one of the most improved horses at the track and is in big demand but Mr Hawkins has consistently turned down all offers for him himJack Jack Baker is training two Fnurson Cochran winner of fifty per cent of his twelve starts and one of the stars of last season anil Pit Jr a much iMtter colt than his races of last season indicate There are rome here who consider him a hard luck eolt but ho is as fast as lightning lightningT T C McDowells pair of good lookers Manager Vaito nicelyWill and Liberator are moving along nicely Will Perkins has three of the eligibles iu his barn Booker Pill and Marion Goosby property of M C Moore and Tetau owned by W T rosth waito Hooker Bill has developed into an exception ¬ ally goodlooking colt and Tetan is much improved in appearance W appearanceW J Yon g is training Leo Ray and Greville Leo Ray is the property of J T Looney one of the owners of the Lexington bastball club and a pros ¬ perous business man and the trainers here regard him as a colt that must bo taken Into consideration whenever figures are made on the Derby possibili ¬ ties He is highly improved over his twoyearold appearance appearanceCommonada Commonada which ran out all winter at Walter Paynes farm was taken up about a month ago by Will IVikins and was turned over to AI Austin upon his arrival here from New Orleaps This son of The Commoner Is looking well wellJ J KoPne is training Fred Forsy thes La Patrio one of the best if not the best threeyearold fil ¬ lies hi the state and she Is to be pointed for both the Derby and the Oaks OaksL L Weiss Stalwart Helen is lieing trained by Slim Moon and she is an attrnctrve filly She wintered at Chicago and arrived hen1 February 1 For Fair the best horse at New Orleans this winter is being trained by G M Miller who arrived here a couple of winks ago and his son of Fair Plav compares favorably with other Derby eligible here hereAndrew Andrew M owned by Arthur It Hancock is in J C Milams stable and is a gqpdUoking colt coltBars Bars and Stars the 1 R Bradley candidate is still at Idle Hour Farm where he is said lo be training satisfactorily though there is still some suspicion as to one of his legs legsOf Of the horsos named above Solly Luke Andrew M Chalmers Leo Ray Manager Waite Booker Bill are candidates for the Camdeii Handicap at one mile and a quarter which s to be one of the features of the Kentucky Association spring meet ¬ ing and La Patrio and Stalwart Helen are eligible for the Ashland Oak
