STABLES BEGIN TO LEAVE HAVANA Only About 200 Horses Will Be Left in Few Days to Continue Oriental Park Meeting1 Havana Cuba March 2O An extension of the meeting at Oriental Iark until April 4 was recently announced by the Cuba American Jockey Club Hiero may be a further extension of a day or two and possibly the meeting may run until the middle of May In the latter event there will be but three raning days a week after April 4 the idea being to provide some racing for the horsemen who may elect to remain here nntil the opening of the spring meetings in Camilla Already horsemen are making preparations for the coming seasons campaign in the Inited Slates The stables of T P Hayes and Tom McDowell were tile first to depart Mr MoPowcll himself departed for Lexington on Mon ¬ day and his horses left on Tuesday in charge of p P Hayes Messrs McDowell and Hayes both won peural races here and each showed up what promise ° shifty twoyearolds in Kinney and Poppee The former worked extremely well at Oriental Park and won his only start liere in im ¬ pressive style This youngster is by Dick Welles Lady Strathmore a mare that Mr Hayes raced with great success and holder of the mile and an eighth record at the old St Louis Fair Grounds track Kinney is a rapid breaker and runs like ti seasoned racer He easily disposed of his oppo ¬ sition in his only start and Mr Hayes has hopes of tho colt showing up well In some of the fixtures in Kentucky Mr McDowell does not profess to have much faith in Poppee but it would not be surpris ¬ ing to tiid this youngster holding its own in the earlier races for twoyearolds in Kentucky Mr McDowell claimed that Popjwo showed less than any of the yearlings he tried out last fall and was the least promising If this is a fact then the tail Kentuckian will cut some figure this year with his twoyearolds As a matter of fact lie claims that he has the best stable this season he ever had Mr McDowell paid some fancy prices for yearlings last summer He purchased several of the Haggln bred youngsters and it is possible that the Haggin state may be interested in their running qualities Jockey Ted Koerner will probably do Mr McDow ¬ ells riding tills year He was anxious to give the 1id every opportunity while here and was satisfied Hint he hud regained his form Speaking of Koer iier Mr McDowell said that he had great respect for Koerners ability as a rider and that whenever he hail the mount on any of his horses he always felt confident that he would get a good ride rideOn On Monday a big shipment is due to leave for Howie This consignment will be made up of eight cars and will include the stubles of 11 G Bedwell J O Talbott Larry Carey William Walker Phil Hyams 1 S Ownbey William Biruie James Arthur II O Comstock A G Blakeley Walter Congdon and W C Westmoreland Over 200 horses will remain over until the conclusion of the meetirsr The fact that the lohnsonWillard light will be held at the race track on April 4 means that many will be inlineneed to remain over who otherwise would return to the United States sooner Jack Curley who Is promoting the fight reports that several big parties will come down by special boats from the States Tho biggest delega ¬ tion will come south from Xew York on the Minne haha There will he 400 in this party Special ex ¬ cursions will be run to Havana from all points in
