READY FOR ACTION AT DOUGLAS PARK Taking Program Devised For tho Second Saturday of the Meeting1 Fast Records Expected Louisville Ky May 18 Few neater program books of a race meeting have ever been issued than the one just published by the Douglas Park Jockey Club for the coining meeting there of thirteen racing days which begins on Saturday May 22 and con ¬ cludes on Saturday June 5 The program contains a list of the stakes with the entries in each and the overnight cards of seven races daily for the first seven days of the meeting while the pro ¬ gram of seven races for the linal six days of the meeting will be announced by Friday May 28 The opening feature race is the Speculation Stakes at one mile and a sixteenth and with its I5CO added makes a total of 5300 added to the seven races to be run on the flrst day of the meeting and tills is even less than any other afternoon at Dounglas Park this spring on which a stake race is to be decided decidedOf Of course the great day of the coming mooting is Saturday May 29 when the Kentucky Handicap will bu run On this afternoon the added montv to the seven races totals the sum of ii70J which with but one exception is the greatest amount of money added by any jockey club for a single afternoons sport in the historv of Ken ¬ tucky racing The full card for Douglas Parks chief day follows followsFirst First Race Purse 000 for threeycnrolds and over threequartersSecond selling threequarters Second Itace Purse 00 for maiden twoyear olds furlongsThird four and a half furlongs Third Hace Purse COO for throeyearolds and over selling one mile and a sixteenth sixteenthFourth Fourth Uace The Kentucky Handicap with 10000 added for threeyearolds and over one mile and a quarter quarterFifth Fifth Uace Handicap purse 700 for threeyear olds yeardsSixth and over one mile and seventy yeards Sixth Uace Purse 000 for twoyearolds five eigbtlis eigbtlisSeventh Seventh Uace Handicap soiling purse 000 for threeyearolds and over one mile and threesix ¬ teenths teenthsThe The latter race is the first event of this charac ¬ ter to be run over any of the Kentucky tracks so springThe far this spring The program book is embellished with an out ¬ side cover showing an artistic cut in colors of Luke McLnke the winner of the Kentucky Handicap last year and an eligible to the race again this year This same cut is used for the window posters this spring and now decorates all the big stores in the city It has attracted a world of attention and many lovers of racing have made application for tho poster to frame and place in their homes homesManager Manager John Haclunaister lias everything now In perfect order for the opening next Saturday Horsemen say that the Douglas park track Is in a condition flint could hardly lie improved and with good weather conditions prevailing during the ciiining meeting and tin high class of horses racing it is nearly a certainty that some of the records for this course will be lowered this spring and perhaps several records broken during the thirteen days of racing racingAt At present this course holds the American record at fiveeighths for twoyearolds 58 scored by Old Rosebud vbifh later won the Kentucky Derby at a mile and a quarter in 203 = i which is the re v rd for that race This course also holds the Kentucky record for a mile and a quarter 201 made by Luke McLuke In the Kentucky Handlan last year as well as for two miles 320 which is to the credit of Clubs the first winner of the Louisville Cup since that event has been the fea ¬ ture of the all racing season at tbis course
