RESTRICT ENGLISH RACING TO NEWMARKET According to a cablegram from London it has been decided to suspend racing in England witli the exception of tho Newmarket meetings The dis ¬ patch says The government through the board cif trade today requested the Jockey Club to sus ¬ pend all race meetings in Great Britain after this week for the duration of the war with the excep ¬ tion of tlm Newmarket meetings meetingsWalter Walter Ruuciman president of the board of trade in a letter to the chief steward of the Jockey Club states that the general feeling on both sides in the house of commons is strongly against the continuance of race meetings and that owing to the war It is necessary to keep the whole of our British railway system free from congestion at any time for the rapid and unimpeded transit of troops for the war warAn An exception is made of the Newmarket meet ¬ ings because the towns industries are entirely de ¬ pendent on racing racingThe The Jockey Club has agreed to the conclusion and it Is thought that advantage will be taken of the Newmarket exception to run the Derby and other classic races there thereThree Three meetings have already been held at New ¬ market Those remaining and their dates are thf Newmarket First July June 29 to Inly 2 New umrlcet Second July Tulv I to Newmarket First October September 28 to October 1 New ¬ market Second October October 12 to I and the Newmarket Houghton October 20 to 29
