RAIN AND MUD FOR LATONIA RACING Mars Cassidy Wins in a Strenuous Finish with Royal Tea Favorites in Bad Luck Cincinnati O June 2i More adverse conditions could hardly be conceived than those which ruled here after the running of the second race At times the rain came down in a solid sheet and the sudden darkness which enveloped the course made it almost impossible to distinguish objects directly oss the track Hard rains in the early morning I transformed track conditions but a cessation of the moisture before race time contributed to a fairly good attendance The spectators suffered exten ¬ sively from the second drenching and many of the female portion were almost thrown into a panic by the lightningThe thunder and lightning The card at best was an ordinary ope affording opportunity to tin iworer grade of racers to win purses and the changed track conditions resulted in wholesale withdrawals reducing the fields to small proportions Favorites were again in eclipse In most instances the public seemingly being far olf in calculations calculationsSomu Somu f the contests were exciting and liard fought That in the fourth race was particularly keen Mars Cassidy triumphing iir the last stride I after a stirring stretch drive to outstay Koyal Tea The latter was best but suffered from crowding when about to come around on the stretch turn Another Instance of the best horse being beaten by rough riding was that of Gypsy Klalr in the second race He was decidedly best but was almost thrown in the llrst eighth which enabled Paulson to win by a length lengthCarrie Carrie Onue started the talent off auspiciously when she just lasted to win by a head over Eddie Delliug The latter might have won but for being forced back at tlie half mile ground when Shadrach came over closely Track conditions were favorable to Lady Powers in the third race and it enabled her to emerge from the maiden class classWilliam William C Clancy who trains the extensive racing stable of Corrigan McKiuney came over from Louisville in quest of exercise IHIVS to assist liihi in breaking thirty three yearlings at Churchill Downs All the older horses in the string will be rested until fall racing begins in Kentucky KentuckyJockey Jockey Ted Kice who recently sustained a bad fall came over with Clancy He is staying at Louisville until fully recovered recoveredC C J Brockmiller shipped seven horses to New York with the May and Baxter consignment Jockey Meelian under contract to J W May did not ac ¬ company the consignment but will remain here until tho close of the Latonia meeting before rejoining his employer In tho May consignment went tlie crack iwoyearold Cosmic The diminutive F Judy under contract to J W Schorr scored his first victory when hn brought Mars Cassidv home He rode him in faultless fash ¬ ion and gives promise of developing into a useful rider riderT T C McDowells crack threeyearold filly Wa terblossom will be shipped to Fort Krle tomorrow in charge of Miller Henderson who is also taking his extensive string to that Canadian course Wn terblossom is an intended starter in the Canadian Derby and will be prepared for the race by Mr Henderson The others of the McDowell string will l kept hero until the close of Latonia racing w11 they will be shipped to Saratoga SaratogaJ J W Schorr has decided on taking sixteen hoi to Saratoga after the close of racing liens and they will be rested there until the opening of the Sara ¬ toga meeting
