RANCHEU AN EASY VICTOR HAS NO DIFFICULTY IN DEFEATING SCHEMER IN FORT ERIES FEATURE RACE. Marjorie A. Takes a Purse — Wadsworths Last Also Scores — Track Improving and May Be Fast Today — Gossipy Notes of the Track, Fort Brie, Out.. August 0.— Coorge M. Hendries Rancher proved an easy winner of Fort Eries feature race this afternoon, when he came from behind and galloped hosae an easy winner wVCS Schemer in the mile allowance race that was fourth on the program. Baas her was rated by jockey GdM-stein under stout restraint for the tirst live-eighths, then moved up on the outside and easily disposed of Schemer in the stretch. Carbide, the other starter, w a- badly i utpaced. The races were run over a track that was rapidly drying out. The fooling was much better than on Thursday, and by tomorrow it should be fast. Interesting sport was in order, and some of the liu-ishes were close. In the opener. Wadsworths Last came from last place and beat Dorcris a nek. Marjorie A. led all the way in tlie second, hut at the finish was hard ridden to outstay Ionlefraet. The latter closed a big gap and was beaten oulv a half, length. 11. O. Bedwell received an addition to his slab]* in the plater Parlor Bay, which arrived from the half mile track at Toronto this morning. Jockey Eddie TnpBn left for California with his family last night to spend a couple of months. Tup-liu will probably report to tne BedweU stable when the Maryland meetings open. B. C. Arnold, who is interested with W. I.. I.ewis in the ownership of several racers, was an arrival from Kentucky. A. I.. Austin has decided to finish out the season on the Canadian circuit. At I he conclusion of the Ottawa meet ing he will return with is stable to Kentucky. The two handicap horses Indolence and oiuinoiiad.i will be turned out in Kentucky for the winter. Before leaving for New Orleans Mr. Austin will purchase a couple of yearlings. At the recent Hamilton meeting Austin won seven races with the ■-IX h.rses he had there. The two year old Orgcterix. by Ossary out of a sister to Jack Atkln that Baddy P. Marshall purchased from Burncy Schrelber, will lie shipped from Kentucky to Windsor and put in training. The rait has been turned out all summer at J. D. Carr-i farm. The two year old Spadix was gelded last Week and will not be raced until late in the fall. The latter died after foaling, and her offspring was raised on a liottle. He is ;i big. lusty youngster and drinks three gallons of milk a day.
