There is much historic interest clustering around the Latonia Cup. it was first run in MM and its winner was Harry Gilmore. So keen was that contest that Taxgatherer and Levant finished so close together for second place that the judges decided it ■ dead heat lietwcon the pair. The second winner of tiiis race was the brilliant long-distaiice burse Bob Miles, ami then came in 1SS6 the famous race in which Hidalgo, the California cra.k. finished first, but was disqualified for a foul and the race awarded to Irish Pat. I:i IS.S7 Fosteial won the race, defeating the great mare. Kaloolah. All these races were run in these years at the spring and summer meetings at Latonia and the Cup was discontinued i-i the latter year, hi MM manager Ilachmeister revived the race as the feature event of the annual fall meetings and its winners since have been Clntrella, StHr Charter. Rudolfo. Sir Catesby and Iidy Errant. It is a feature that ;s well selected to star on the closing day of a great fall meeting and is likely to bring the racing sdson of MM in Kentucky to n brilliant close when it is run on Wednesday. October 27.
