Vet he is not in lM-st rider by any means. Butwell. who is second in number of races won, is his superior in some of ; the arts of jocke. ship, while C. H. Shilling. ., positive genius in the saddle, was infinitely better than either. In fact, their relative merits are well expressed in their respective percentages. It speaks much for Shilling that he is third in the list despite being debarted from the privilege of riding for the last three years. In the matter of money won for his employers Joseph Hotter is first with the imposing total of |627,463, Butwell ranking second to him In this interesting feature. Other jockeys who have guided the winners of totals in excess of a half million dollars are J. .McCahey, C. H. Shilling and B. Dana. The Jockeys who in the space of time named have ridden one hundred or more winners, together with their aggregates of money won, are tlie following: 1906. 1009. 1910. 1911. 1912. 191.1. 1914.
