MOBILE MEETING NOT WELL PATRONIZED, Discredited Promoter Attempts to Prevent the Racing by an Injunction. Mobile. Ala.. March 5. — The tell-days meeting of the Mobile Carnival Association Opened yesterday with a small crowd in attendance. The winners included J. B. Ilarrell. Modesto Boy Toddling. Deposit ami Old Charter. W. 11. Bickers, the deposed manager of the meeting, obtained a temporary injunction against the holding of the meeting, hut the pa| ers were not served, as it is understood Bickers failed to put up the required bond. Bickers had appealed to the governor and attorney-general to stop the meeting. The sheriff, replying to an inquiry from Governor Charles Henderson if it was necessary to call out the militia to stop the meeting should there be any Violation of law. said the sheriff and the Mobile police will handle the situation well. Deputies were scattered through the crowd, and absolutely no odds were i« sted or betting in any form indulged in. The association announced that the meeting would be carried out legardlc-i of whether netting is permitted. B. Kraes was placed under arrest at the close of the races by the sheriff on a charge of betting.
