SEES LITTLE HOPE OF INCREASE. A Bowie dispatch says that the horsemen have circulated a petition for an increase of the parses at the Havre de Grace meeting, which is to follow. and it is intimated that a similar request will be made by such owners as expect to patronize the Canadian half-mile tracks, who wili demand §400 purses. Sueh a request is likely to fall on deaf ears so far as the local tracks are concerned. An increase of at least 00 in the daily distribution, on tcp of the additional 50 that has to be paid daily to the Ontario treasury, means giving up 0,000 more each meeting, and even the syndicate ring has its limitations. The Montreal syndic:! tes. including Back Kiver, have no provincial tax to meet and owners may squeeze them up to the 00 - notch, though even there this is not probable unless the number of races on the days program is decreased. — Francis Nelson in Toronto Globe.
