SOMETHING OF THE EVERGREEN BUDWEISER. The oldest horse racing in America at the present time is Budweiser. which won a couple of races luring the Hot Springs meeting. He is sixteen years old and seems to be a marvel of the turf. The last time on record that Budweiser started licfore the late Hot Springs meeting was at New-Orleans on March 20. 1910. when be ran eleventh in a race won "by J. Ed Grillo. He was owned at that time by V. E. Walsh. Many inquiries have lK-en received asking where the horse had been during this lung interval. Lou and .1. . Calm raced the horse around St. Iyiuis. getting him from Captain B. . Bunbury. who bought him from Joseph Lucas, breeder of the horse in Missouri. Walsh is given as his last owner. ;eorge Moore, his present owner, bought him at Waco. Texas, from an unknown negro, who said he had raced the horse at Shrevej.ort. Mariugouin. La., and other places. So Budweiser probably was racing at bush meetings in Louisiana and Texas during his absence from the recognized tracks. The horse was not permitted to start at Hot Springs until properly identified. Certain characteristic markings were readily noticeable and the Calms quickly identified him.
