OWNERS COMPROMISE ON 50 PURSES. Montreal, Que., July 21. A meeting of the horsemen was held at Mount Royal track yesterday morning, when .the matter of purses for the coming meetings at Maisonneuve and King Edward Park, as "well as the Toronto half-mile tracks was taken up and dealt with. The executive committee of the Horsemens Protective Association had received a letter from the Toronto half-mile tracks which offered 50 purses. This they decided to accept for this autumns racing. The meetings -at Toronto will follow the close of the meeting at Maisoncuve Park. They decided that they would request 50 purses for Maisonneuve and King Edward Park and that, they lie allowed to draw for post positions and split races as they are doing at Mount Royal Park and did at King Edward at the last meeting there. They will not ask to be represented by officials at any of the meetings. Grant Hugh Browne shipped the horse Canon Bridge here from New York to race out the meeting at the local track. He has been turned over to trainer Casey to handle and will likely be started on Saturday. Jockey A. Claver received word from H. G. Bed--well from Chicago this afternoon to leave tonight for Chicago to ride for him at Hawthorne. AVol-stenholm has been riding for the Kcdwcll stable and will be likely sent here to handle the Red-well horses on the local track. Claver has been riding in better form at this meeting than he lias for the past two years, and should be an acquisition to the stable of his new employer, who is badly in need of another rider. The directors of the Dorval Park Jockey Club returned from Windsor this afternoon and one of them stated that they would hold a meeting on Monday to confirm the appointment of Captain AV: F, Presgrave an manager and accept the resignation of Sam N. Holman. It was reported here this afternoon that the new board of stewards for the local race tracks under the Canadian Racing Associations jurisdiction will be made up of William Northoy. James Cnrruthcrs and W. F. Presgrave, J. T. 11. Iiurendeau and Fred Richards, representing Dorval. These men are all well-known authorities on racing. William Northey is also secretary of the Montreal Jockey Club, which operates the I Slue Bonnets track.
