AUSTRALIAN RACING GOSSIP. The annual report of the New Zealand Country Racing Clubs Executive referred to increased taxation on account of the war, and stated that as the result of the interview with the government the extra taxation was diverted from the clubs on to the winners of dividends on the total-isator. "There is no doubt," the report proceeds, "that the large revenue ropeived from racing folk will be the means of retaining the totalisator indefinitely, for the reason that the Dominion will require every penny of revenue for many years to come to meet the large debt incurred by the war, and no finance minister can for years give hoed to our opponents desire to wipe us out" I
