HORSES IN THE SEAGRAM STABLE RETURN IT TO SOMETHING j LIKE ITS OLD-TIME MEASURE OF IMPORTANCE . . Accustomed for many years some time back to being the leader among Canadian turfmen, Mr. J. E. Seagram has not been greatly favored in his racing of more recent years and has cut an inconspicuous ligure as a rule. This year brought about a reversion to something like the old-time prosperity of his stable. Quite a number of his young horses of his own breeding proved their ability to race to good purpose, one of which, Mandarin, placed to his credit the race so coveted by all Canadian owners, the Kings Plate at Toronto, with two of his stable mates in second and third places. Furthermore, in his only other start of the year Mandarin added the Breeders Stakes to his winning account. It thus came about that Mandarin was the principal contributor to the earnings of the stable, but Gala Water also figured effectively in the same way. Gold Galore, Sturdee, Gala Dress, Sweet Colleen and Galley Head all turned in more than ,000 and the decidedly satisfactory record of the stable for the year is: Horse. Col. and Sex. A.
