T MONEY REAPED IN RACING OVER THE TRACKS WHICH MAKE UP THE MARYLAND FIELD 4 : . , In common witli the other sectional American fields of racing, the Maryland field greatly increased its output of money distributed among owners in 1917, showing a gain over 1916 of the substantial sum of -6,865. Only the Dowie track failed to show an increase, due to a blunder that reduced its fall meeting to eleven days instead of the customary fifteen. Laurel led the Maryland tracks in botli total and daily distribution, with Pimlico a close. second. From beginning to end the Maryland racing campaign was one of great prosperity to all concerned, its racing and. patronage fully justifying the fostering care awarded it by; the Jockey Club. Details of matters of interest in its statistics are presented in the following table: a a a 2 3 3 3 OS Mg ? aP jjO 3 ,a3 P MQ b3 -o rr- o 2.2 and3 c5 ""3 2."
