HORSEMEN APPEAL TO LAWMAKERS Annapolis Md March 15 Yesterday the follow ¬ ing letter addressed by Charles H Berryman of the Thoroughbred Horse Association to the president of the Maryland Senate and General Assembly was received receivedThe The Thoroughbred Horse Association incorporated under Kentuckys law organized for the purpose of improving the breed of horses safeguarding the sport of racing and looking after the welfare of those who are engaged in breeding and racing thor ¬ oughbred horses and having a large membership in thirtysix states including the State of Maryland and extending Its influence and membership into Canada and Cuba begs you read this appeal to this august body to give the State of Maryland a racing commission empowered similarly to the racing com ¬ mission in Kentucky KentuckyWe We make this appeal because we are patriot ¬ ically alive to the nations reniouiit needs jtecause we know that the horsebreeding Industry will pass into decay and die without the stimulation and sup ¬ port its gets from racing racingKacing Kacing under the proper regulation and control of a state racing commission such as Kentucky has would be healthy and clean sport and highly enjoyed by the people of Maryland A commission such as your governor would appoint would from the begin ¬ ning be able to remove the cause for much of the objection which has been raised by the reform ele ¬ ment MarylandThis in Maryland This association prays that your great slate stay a blow which would strike into the vitals of our country in this war for world democracy We must have horses to win the war and we must have racing to have horses
