ENDURANCE TESTS FOR ARMY HORSES New Association Back of Movement to Determine Best Material for Cavalry Service The newly organized Army Horse Association has issued from its headquarters in AVashington a bul ¬ letin on long distance tests for cavalry mounts with a view to promoting such trials of endurance and fitness for tlie service The scheme contemplates a series of preliminary tests in different parts of the United States with a final tryout for the best horses of the various districts or zones the finish to be at the AVhite House in AVashington AVashingtonIt It is purposed to have the horses in the prelim ¬ inary tests travel at least 200 miles and in the final test from 500 to 1000 miles The tests are not to be races in the ordinary sense but rathor a trial of endurance and fitness under absolute military conditions carrying a man of ordinary weight with full equipment and forage for man and beast beastThe The speed element will be of secondary considera ¬ tion so long as horses cover a fair distance say forty miles each day Condition on arrival and the next day after arrival will be the main thing in judging the horses The first of tlie preliminary trials may take place next August New York Herald
