HIGHCLASS MEETING AT DOUGLAS PARK Hacing of Exceptional Brilliancy Assured with Better Grade of Horsas Participating Louisville Kyf September Hi General Manager Tolni Hachmeistcr and his assistant Frank J Itnien have arrived from Cincinnati and opened tlicir offices at Douglas Park to complete arrangements for the inauguration of tlic local season of fall racing on Monday September 3 The Douglas Park track is in its usual sujterb condition and may he the scene of some racing of exceptional brilliancy during the six iliivs on which the sport is scheduled to take place there from September 23 to September 28 The meetings to be conducted here this fall will both be briefer than usual but will be marked by glorious sport in the expectation of their respective managers managersDuring During the six days of the racing at Douglas Park three stake races will lx run in addition to nu ¬ merous valuable overnight handicaps and allowance races that will be hardly less important and attrac ¬ tive than the stake events The action of the vari ¬ ous racing associations in Kentucky in voluntarily increasing purse values next fall is expected to keep the horses of higher class busier than usual on ac ¬ count of the increased opportunities for the good horses to race for purses well worth while Some of the overnight purses this fall will be more valu ¬ able to the winners than the stake races of previous years yearsOn On the opening day of the meeting the Douglas Park Inaugural Handicap of 2000 added for three yearolds and over one mile and onesixteenth will be the big feature The eligibles for this important race includes Mich well known stars of the thor ¬ oughbred turf as King Gorin Lucky 15 Tumbler Bribed Voter Golding Beaverkill Rancher Colonel Vennie Fruit Cake Freecntter Precious Manager Waite Olive Wood Huford Sous Marine Butter ¬ scotch II FauxCol Opportunity and Viva America The Beechmont Selling Stakes is scheduled for de ¬ cision on Thursday September 25 This is a race of 1500 added for twoyearolds distance five and onehalf furlongs The thirty eligibles include Woodpile Cockroach Brother Maclean Camofleur Hunterniann Kegalo Sam Itch Sans Peur II Pas toreaii Brunette II Larry B Orenzo Florence Webber Wave Merrivale Blondel Lancelot Frank Mattox Buncrana Exempted Wa Tax Senti ¬ mental Lady Langdcn Milda Brimful Legal Linden Royal Dagger Sway and Verboten VerbotenThe The remaining stake event will be the Louisville Cup of two miles a handicap for threeyearolds and over Iwying 2r 00 in added money Tills is the most important event of the Douglas Park meet ¬ ing and it will have the place of honor on the pro ¬ gram for the final day Saturday September 28 Its list of eligibles numbers nineteen and includes several proved stayers of good quality being made up of the following Iif Jr Lucky B Tumbler Golding Beaverkill Rancher Herald Moscowa Ba silius Freecutter W P Dabney Mistress Polly Night Wind Night Owl Sous Marine Valais Cheer Loader El Rey and Shadow Lawn LawnRacing Racing Secretary J B Campbell is expected here at once The program book for the Douglas Park meeting is in the hands of the printers and will bo ready for distribution within a day or two It is wortli while noting that although the entry lists for the stake races to be run during this meeting are not numerically heavy there is no deadwood among them all of the horses named being in active train ¬ ing for these engagements which will assure satis ¬ factory fields fieldsJudge Judge Charles F Price who presides in the stew ¬ ards stand at both local tracks is on hand ready to assume his important duties With the exception of a brief trip to Chicago he has spent most of tho time intervening since the close of the summer meetings at his home in this city
