MAY POSTPONE OPENING DAY Beginning of Latonia Meeting On OnThursday Thursday Is Not Yet Certain Depends On Improvement of the theInfluenza Influenza Situation in the theNext Next Few Days Cincinnati O October 7 The opening of the fall race meeting of the Latonia Jockey Club scheduled for Thursday next may be postponed to a date to be announced later in harmony with the campaign of the local health authorities to take all precautionary measures to check the spread of Spanish influenza in this locality localityManager Manager Hachmeister however wired Daily Rac ¬ ing Form from Latohia Monday afternoon It is possible that the edict of authority may IMJ modified in time to permit Latonias oi cning Thursday as originally scheduled The influenza situation is improving rapidly in and around the Kentucky edge of Cincinnati which embraces the Latonia course The decision to defer the opening of the race meeting was arrived at Sunday when the Council of Defense for Kcnton County Ken ¬ tucky decided to order the temporary prohibition of nil public gatherings on the Kentucky side of Jlie Ohio following similar action taken by the Cincinnati and neighboring boards of health in southern Ohio While then was a difference of opinion among the yhysicians present at the Council of Defense meeting as to the desirability of in iIuding oyenalr gatherings it was finally decided to make fiV order apply to both indoor and outdoor i riiiliIag S to vhich the representatives of the La tuiiia Jockey Cliih present at th meeting cheer ¬ fully jissented jissentedJprKRtJMaiuiger JprKRtJMaiuiger John Haclnneisttr of the Latonin Jockey Club Rtafid that the Kentucky State Racing Commission would no doubt sanction the opening f the postponed race meeting and its continuance for tho twentyone days originally allotted as soon as the authorities lift the ban against outdoor as ¬ semblages If for i ust nice it should he found practicable to proceed with the meeting one week later than the date originally set for the opening it w iild run until Saturday XovemlKr instead jf flu ing on Saturday November 2 It is Manager Ilachmeistcrs intention to let the program for the Hireling stand as it was originally framed and run the stakes and purse offerings in their proper sequence when the opportunity offers offersAt At the earliest possible moment proper notice will IK given to the horsemen and others interested of the revised arrangements for the opening of the meeting The past two days have brought the arrival of numerous stables of horses to Latonia from Louisville in preparation for the opening of the meeting and others are to follow at once In view of the circumstances and racing conditions else ¬ where it is thought unlikely that any of them will change their plans for racing at Latonia when the opportunity offers It is highly probable that without a single exception all will remain at La Jonia to await the opening of the meeting if it is postponed
