WAR HORSES AND THEIR PRICES PRICESHorse Horse breeding for war puriioses is a subject that attracts considerable attention nowadays and in discussing it in a recent issue of the London Sports man that papers Paris correspondent stated that the French ministry of war had instructed the remount to buy preferably in France 90000 horses for military piiriwses 5000 of which would be reijiired to mount the American troops This came as a lx on to the Normandy and Brittany light horse breeders who had passed through a terribly bad time The American purchases made on behalf of the United States of America provided economy in transjiort and saved sea risks Prices were fixed bylthe ministerial circular of March 1918 as fol ¬ lows Heavy cavalry officers 305 men 395 Dragoons officers 455 men 250 light cavalry officers 425 men 310 light artillery 350 heavy artillery 415 and light draught horses 300 Authority was given the remount to increase these prices by thirty per cent for hordes having the requirements laid down by the army council and being over five and under fifteen years old
