OVER 500 HORSES AT NEW ORLEANS Plenty of Racing Material on Hand for the Open ¬ ing of Jefferson Park Saturday New Orleans La November 20 The opening of Jefferson Park next Saturday will find everything in readiness at that plant for the successful conduct of its race meeting Constant arrivals of horses and jockeys during the last few days coupled with the many others that are en route that will reach the track before Saturday are ample assurances of available timber to inaugurate the meeting satis ¬ factorily and it will gain in momentum as it pro ¬ gresses gressesDefinite Definite announcement that the Latonia racing would continue until Thanksgiving Day will retard the arrival of the best stables at that point reach ¬ ing here but the close of the Kentucky racing will find a general exodus of the horsemen there for the Crescent City The Bowie track addition will cause an overabundance and unless owners have secured reservations at either of the courses here they will be in a quandary for accommodations accommodationsAt At present nearly 00 horses are quartered at both tracks and comprise a diversified aggregation including many good ones but which probably will not be sent into immediate action due to an owners natural desire to give them a resting spell after a long shipment Of tiie more prominent owners now here with their racing strings are Marshall Bros W C Clancy C A Applegate Mrs R L Bresler J H Rosseter B J Brannon C E Rowe Knebel kamp Howcrton W II Frye W Walker Robert McKeever E Peters T Shannon O Pons Fred Burlew W C Weant J O Talbott Frazer Reed Solomon Jarmon Smith Farrar Frank Farrow B E Chapman J Byer and P Sullivan SullivanDuring During the absence of Secretary J B Campbell who will have to remain at Latonia Wash Norvell will assume the dntjes of the secretarys office and will also serve as clerk of the scales The program book covering a period of the first two weeks racing has already been provided fcr The conditions of the second week of racing has been compiled and forwarded here by Secretary Campbell and is now ready for the printer printerJoseph Joseph A Murpliy had planned to arrive here this aftermron but was delayed at Bowie and will reach here Friday His associates as stewards and judges Herman Conkliug and C C Hall will precede him Conkliug already bcing oij liand and Mr JUoll is expected tomorrow Looking into the applications for licenses is now occupying the attention of the officials on the grounds and the O K release on these necessary privillges to jockeys and trainers will not come until Judge Murphys arrival arrivalThere There may be a scarcity of riders for the first few days but after Thanksgiving Day some of the most prominent jockeys in the country will lie here hereThere There is a goodly number of visiting turf followers already in evidence and every train is bringing ad ¬ ditions The eastern brigade is particularly exten ¬ sive and includes many of tlie more prominent opera ¬ tors on tlie metropolitan tracks
