IMPROVEMENT AT JEFFERSON Track Yields to Combination of Good Weather and Much Work Most Interesting Racing of the theMeeting Meeting Diversion Wins the thePrincipal Principal Race Xew Orleans La December 4 Continued fair weather had an appreciable effect on both the attendance and the racing serving to bring out a good crowd that was rewarded by witnessing the best sport of the meeting A decided improvement was noticeable in the condition of the track re ¬ sultant from the combination of the good weather and much work on the part of the management It seems probable that the course will be close to its best condition by Saturday unless a changs in weather occurs occursA A handicap at threequarters of a mile was to ¬ days main attraction and the good Sweep filly Di ¬ version won it in easy fashion finishing six lengths in front of Bribed Voter which passed the tiring Pilsen in the last eighth eighthB B J Brannons filly The Cullen Bon won the opener She appeared sore going to the post and experienced difficulty getting in her stride but once fully settled she displayed good speed and drew away at the end to win byr three lensOjjv aafaror s is an unsettled question whether she would have won had not Minawand unseated her rider at the post and run away a half mile before being caught The latter showed high speed in the race but the effects of her early escapade began to tell in the stretch and she quit badly badlyThe The mile dash run as the second race furnished an interesting and close finish with Mumbo Jtimbo scoring a well earned victory over Planta genet by a small margin The winner set the early pace and after being supplanted by Plantageiiet on the far turn hung on tenaciously and under a powerful hand ride en the part of Wakoff caught the leader in the final strides and outgamed him at the end It was the best finish of the meeting meetingAgain Again in the third race the spectators were treated to another close finish Kenward after leading throughout just lasted long enough to get the decision from Koederer The latter was gaining with every stride and would have won in a few more strides stridesPaul Paul Connelly and Early Sight contested every yard of the fifth race and the result was in doubt until the judges announced the winner the first named getting the verdict by a nose
