FRENCH RACES FOR FRENCH HORSES ForeignBred Horses Ineligible to Important Events in France May Keep American Stars at Home NEW YORK December S It is not generally known among the rank and file of nicegoers that few races are promoted in France in which for ¬ eignbred horses are eligible As a racing country France has an idea of its own France is for France in the thoroughbred world and to Encourage the breeding industy there most of the important events are for the hnniebred product There are not more than a half dozen events of prominence in which outsiders are invited invitedIf If such were not the case said a trainer who has spent several years abroad many of the richest French stakis would b won by horses sent from other countries England would corral many of thorn as it is easy to ship horses from England to France Hence the barrier raising against for ¬ eign horses excepting in a few instances It was for that reason many of the American owners started breeding farms in France so that the product would be eligible for all the rich fixtures There will be little for any Americanbred horse to do over there These facts almost assure the present band of horses in this country staying here no matter how good they are though some of their owners would probably like to send them over to gather up some French laurels laurelsBut But few of the rank and file of horsemen are seen in their old haunts these days Occasionally one or two drop into the Waldorf and swap stories Snapper Garrison and Jack McGinnis are seen two or three times a week and once in a while Sandy McNaughton steps into the group with his satisfied smile for Sandy is going to France with some horses belonging to Mr AVHfrid Viau I dont know that I want to go particularly says Sandy this town is pretty good but Mr Aiau wants me to and as he is my employer it is for him to say where he wishes to race his horses horsesCol Col Matt AViun will spend a quiet winter In New York with his family He may take a run down to Cuba after the holidays It is probable he will have company too as Thomas Monalmn would take little persuading to get aboard the ship with Colonel AAinn There will possibly be others when the time for sailing arrives
