WARM SUN IMPROVES JEFFERSON TRACK Coin Still Bcmains Heavy Attendance Saturday Largest Since Course Was Built NEW OKLEANS Deccnilxr 15 Under a warm sun today tin Jefferson Park nice track dried out considerably but even if no more rain falls it will be the middle of the week before it gets in any ¬ thing like even good condition A large number of horses were given workouts over it around the dogs but it was at the Fair Grounds that the most activity was shown That track was in fairly good condition and owners and trainers took ad ¬ vantage of tiie opportunity to give their charges some much needed work workOnly Only a trifle more than two weeks remain of the Jefferson Park meeting and it is becoming better as it goes along The attendance Saturday was probably the largest since the course was built and this in the fare of bad weather an unusually heavy track and the fact that it would be hard to get together a poorer band of horses than contested the six races on that day Even with bad horses racing the public seem to be able to land on the winners with startling regularity and the oralizers all show a big balance on the wrong side of the lodger The layers got the first good break Sat ¬ urday that they have experienced in more than ten days Despite their continued trouncings they have all remained on the firing line hoping that things would turn in their favor favorThus Thus fr the eastern contingent has takkcn the lions share of the purse money the Kentucky owned horses seemingly being unable to get into their stride in the muddy solus Localowned horses have accounted for a number of races hardly a day going by but what one or more of flicm win winJ J O Talhott is at the top of the list of purse winning owners with 4020 to his credit The Talbott horses have not been faring as well lately as they did in the first part of the meeting but trainer S A Clopton is not starting them as fre ¬ quently as lie did then thenThe The racing firm of Kntbelkamp Howerton is second on the list having taken 3680 Others wlio have won SI 100 or more are W C Weant 1700 J B Goodman 1070 W Walker 1420 W D Bernhardt 1380 B J Brannon 1290 P Dunne 1200 A R Brcsler and J B Duniestre 1100 each eachRiding Riding honors for the meeting to date belong to jockey Frank Kobinson who has piloted seventeen winners His closest rival is jockey Buddy Ensor who has won thirteen races The latter has been out of the saddle considerably first through illness and later because of a suspension inflicted by the starter starterJoseph Joseph MvLennan who will serve as racing secr tary at the Fair Grounds minounced today that ho will have the first condition book for that meeting ready TuesdayMore for the horsemen Tuesday More applications for stall room were received to ¬ day but it is more than probable that a few owners will not be accomodated because of lack of stabling facilities More horses an here now than ever before in recent years and a numl er for which stable room has been engaged will be here within a few days daysCanada Canada Jack Ailkins arrived yesterday but did not bring any horses with him Later on he intends bringing his twoyearold Woodpile which is KyJ now in charge of Joe Hawkins at Lexington Ky J M Brown is at the Fair Grounds with Good Counsel Happy Thought and n yearling by Dick Finnell that lie secured from Piatt Carr
