CHICAGO WELCOMES HOME ITS OWN Chicago felt a strange thrill yesterday a heart beat It had not known before. The vanguard of its soldier sons was back from the fields of France the Blackhawks were home again and it set the city wild with joy. From the earlv morning hour, before daylight had chased away the darkness, when the Jirst train came stealing in with its freight of khaki-clad figures, all through the day, it was a riot of laughter and tears, songs and silent embraces and cheers. Chicago was taking its hero sons to its heart. Crowds were at the station to wave and shout their greetings. Friends and loved ones were at the Coliseum to receive them. And along the line of march for the parade it seemed as if half of Chicago had gathered to do homage to the homecoming doughboys. , ... .. Chicago was stirred 1" the depths. :scer has such a wave of glad emotion swept over the cltv at least, not since the days of 0-. when the Civil war veterans came back from their victorious fight Too much moved at. times to give vent to their feelings in cheers, the vast crowds remained silent but in tiie silence there was si feeling that was akin to pathos.
