HAVANA RACING TO RIVAL SARATOGA G W Loft New Partner in Cuban Track Tolls of Vast Improvements Contemplated NEW YORK N Y May 27 We are going to have a real race track in Havana said George W Loft one of the new owners of Oriental Park to ¬ day one that Avill be a credit to the sport of racing Under the new management it is not ex pccted to make nioney for several yeais THat5 is not our intention So long as AVC can make ex ¬ penses Ave shall be Avcll repaid Syndicate book making for one thing Avill be abolished The speculating element Avill be accommodated by cither mutucls or an open betting ring AVhicb one has not yet been decided upon We shall givii from 5200 to 500 away daily in purses and many stakes to attract horses and owners of im ¬ portance to Havana Oiir efforts will be to make the Avintcrs at Havana looked forward to with as much desire as the coming of Saratoga hi August by horsemen and patrons What is more we Khali reserve the right to eliminate all undesirable own ¬ ers trainers and jockeys from taking part in our meetings privelegesC or enjoying our priveleges C J Fitz Gerald Avill be the manager and he Avill have practically all to say on such matters The figures AVC have and the possibilities in sight indicate Ave can afford to spend an average of nearly 7000 a day in purses and expenses and break even for the first few years The improve ¬ ments will be many and the accommodations Ave shall inaugurate Avill be incentives to Invite travel ¬ ers to Cuba The clubhouse Avill bo enlarged con ¬ siderably and made to accommodate many visitors and AVC expect many from the States under the new order of things for there is no better place in the Avorld for Avinter racing than Havana HavanaIn In a few words concluded Mr Loft it is the intention of the stockholders to build up Ha Aana Avinter racing to compare in prestige Avitii Saratoga 01 any other like institution and to make it as inviting to tourists as any Avinter resort We realize that winter racing can ljeimada s important and as highclassvaK at any summer es ¬ tablishment of the kind It is our intention t make it so Avith able and liberal management Avitii an advancement of the sport a greater incentive than profit
