TIME FOR ACTIVITY AT NEW ORLEANS ORLEANSDelay Delay Now Will Benefit Havana and Mean Loss of Many of Bettor Class Horses NEW ORLEANS La June 17 Havana racing interests are working overtime toward assuring for next winter at the Cuban track the greatest season of thoroughbred racing ever held on the island and at the same time detract considerably from the success of the New Orleans racing Since Oriental Park has passed into the hands of its new owners general manager C J Fltz Gerald and other offi ¬ cials of the Havana course have been working in ¬ cessantly among the owners of the large and better class stables with a view of inducing them to race in Cuba next winter The success of their plans mean that many of those that formerly raced here at the Fair Grounds will be among the missing next winter unless the local racing organizations start a campaign of their own ownImmediate Immediate action is necessary Ed Austin well known through racing circles all over the country returned the other day from New York and he says the situation demands attention attentionAccording According to Austin the Havana people are bend ¬ ing every effort toward winning away from NeW Orleans the best and biggest strings And with last winters deplorable track stable and drainage conditions here many of these desirable stables are apt to lend an enr to the Havana urgings urgingsThose Those who were here have carried with them re ¬ ports of the poor drainage the wretched track and the leaky barns As Sam llildretli expressed when asked why he hadnt come down last winter Be ¬ lieve me Im sure glad I didnt didntNothing Nothing but positive assurance to these kind of horsemen of a vast imnrovement in conditions here is going to persuade the best of them those who have valuable horses and who want them properly cared for to take another fling at the local sporU The time to lay this as assurance before them is now every daythoy are signing up for stable room at Havana And where the wealthy horsemen and big stables go there will go the tourist and the winter visitors
