MIGHTY ROAMER INJURED Andrew Millers Famous Gelding Suddenly Develops Lameness Extent of Trouble Not Yet De ¬ termined Will Not Start in Saratoga Handicap SARATOGA SPRINGS N Y July 31 Anxiety was displayed in all quarters here today over the extent of the injury to Andrew Millers popular old gelding Roamer There is more or less a guess as to Roamers injury at least the gravity of it has not been fully determined and will not be for several days and it would be premature to blame the track for the horses injury The popular favorite left the course for his stable at Horse Haven without a sign of injury following his fast trial on the main track and it was only while cooling out that he began showing soreness in his right hind leg At first it was not regarded seriously but the injured member continued to grow steadily worse and trainer Goldsborongh began resorting to first aid methods This morning the limp was not so per ¬ ceptible while he was being led around the stable but on his return to his stall he again began favor ¬ ing the injured leg Dr McCully the prominent veterinarian has been called to examine the horse horseTrainer Trainer Goldsborougb while hopeful that his pop ¬ ular charge willcomcthraucluiitlioutscric asaf ter effects realizes that the injury is centered in a vital spot and that Roamers hard campaigning and age will be a factor in his recovery The horse was Just getting back to his best form said Golds borough and his splendid work yesterday con ¬ vinced me that he was going to be a difficult problem for the best of the horses in these parts to dispose of After the work I felt almost certain that he would add the Saratoga Handicap to his credit for the fourth time and it certainly gave me a great shock to observe he had gone amiss The extent of his trouble will be hard to determine until the swelling in his leg reduces but I am afraid it will impair his usefulness in the future futureRoamer Roamer is carded as a starter in the Saratoga Handicap but there is little possibility of his filling the engagement
