HILDRETH SECOND WINNING OWNER GREAT TOTAL AMASSED FOR HIM BY THE SUPERIOR RACING OF MAD HATTER, PURCHASE, LUCUL-LITEt THUNDERCLAP AND OTHERS Considering the results it attained, the stable raced by Samuel C. Hildreth in 1019 was not excessive numerically, but it scintillated with racing gems and won hugely. When at his best Lucnllite was prob-ibly the best racer in the United States on the basis of weight for age. Some of his races were marvel-jus displays of tremendous speed and ability to stay under high weights. Purchase was the second best three-year-old of the year and Sir Barton had but little the best of him; in fact, some good judges hold liim to be Sir Bartons equal, if not his superior. He was truly a worthy grandson of the mighty and undefeated Ormonde and in time should prove a highly successful sire. Mad Hatter was the stables best money winner because the richest stake race of the year, the Latouia Championship Stakes, fell prey to his superior speed and ability to stay over a long route under trying conditions. Not the equal of Purchase, lie is yet a good colt and likely to score importantly in the racing of 1920. Thunderclap was another good three-year-old. slow in developing, hut a hard one to beat after lie had ripened into his real form. Dominique is in the lirst flight of the years two-year-olds and, if he improves and grows normally through his winter retirement, is -irobably destined to lie a grand three-year-old of great speed. The earnings of these stars, ably supplemented by the useful racing of Out the Way. Lord Brighton, Arrali Go On. Cirrus,. Poacher, Search Light III., Krewer and Valor, piled up for the Hildreth stable what is probably the greatest sum ever won iu American racing by a stable which only finished second, its enviable record being as follows: Horse Col. and Sex.
