PAYS 0,000 FOR ENGLISH BROOD MARE John Sanford Purchases Dark Flight at Newmarket December Sales. NEW YORK, N. Y.. December r. A cablegram from London conveys information that on Tuesday at tlie December sales of thoroughbreds being held at Newmarket John Sanford, the Amsterdam, N. . turfmuu and steward of the Jockey Club, obtained through an agent the seven -year-old brood mare Dark Flight at a cost of 0,000. Thomas Welsh, representing Joseph E. Widener of Philadelphia, was the contending bidder. Dark Flight is a bay mare, by Dark Ronald Chelandry, by Gold Kinch Illnminati, by Roscrucian. She was bred by Lord Rosebery and is in foal to Stedfast. by Chaucer Re Sure, which in tlie Two Thousand Guineas and the Derby of 1111 1 ran second to Sunstar. Whether she will remain in England or be brought to tills country to join the matrons at Hurricana Farm has not been announced. Entries for tlie English turf classics for three-year-olds of 1021 have been published. The totals are: Two Thousand Guineas, 150; One Thousand Guineas. 159; Epsom Derby, 332; Oaks for fillies, 291, and St. Leger, 325.
