January 14.— Todays raring brought nothing to enthuse over, and in two of the dashes, resulting in pronounced form reversals, came adutat criticism, becaaat of the inconsistency. The offenders in this respect were Omond and Mountain Boat II. ISoth in their previous races were beaten off. but this afternoon they were prominent factors from the start and had their reapectire purses won lung before reaching tiie finish. Omond was a starter in the f-ature. a handicap fat a purs, of Si. Kill over the mile and a sixteenth route. Madge F. area an outstanding favorite iu it. with TfOOdtrap the one supposed to be beat, and backed exten.sively. Oinon.l was the ontslde*. I.oyle. on Omoinl, kept that rac.r on the extreme ontside, where the track was fiiini 1. and moved up with a great rush after going a half mile, then drew level with Woodtrap just before reaching the stretch turn. In the drive to the finish Osnsanl won by .; safe margin. Toe -rewards bad I.oyle before them immediately after the lice that rider having also piloted Omond ill his preceding start. The riders explanation wis that Omond seemed to flounder badly in his last start and seemingly disliked the heavy track. The steward-- were satisfied with the explanation. In the case of Mountain Itose II. *s las! race the stewards had his shearing under investigation, but .wiier Marinos explanation that he was inconsistent and had cost him .S11.XH up to date in bets this winter served to whitewash the affair, bnt after his improved showing today, when he won with ease. the officials announced that the further eatrj of the horse would not be accepted here. Another race that had an unexpected result was the f if tli race, which was contested by a qaintet of good ones an. I resulted in the victory of the lightly weighted My Dear, with Stickling in second place and Duchess Lace third. My Dear raced into the lead at once and. being kept in the best part of the course, held Stickling sale throughout. The deceptive going was responsible for the undoing of many of the starters. Those essaying to make the journey sjexl to the inner rail were doomed to utter defeat, for they were seemingly mired by tle stiff going. Despite the fact that it was suicidal to race next to the inner rail several of the riders offended and kept their mounts in this portion of the track. Six favorites suffered defeat during the afternoon, the only choice landing home in front Iwing King Neptune in the closing dash. The overthrow of ehoices b. gaa in the initial race when Whippet was beaten easily by Mammy o Mine and Joe 1 Soodmna. Jim Hastings was supposed to be a good thing in the second race, a dash for maidens, but he failed to get a part of" the purse. Harrys let winning from Bridge Player. Archie Alexander was the next favorit ! to go down to defeat. Duk.- of Devonshire leading him to the finish by a close margin. Madge F. was the next offending choice and Stickling and Mather followed in quick succession. Mather was catered lor 81,888 and was claimed by l.artholomew and Hush, represented in the race by I.eiiister. for .SH . A
