EAST INDIAS TWO GREATEST RACES The met for the King Lmperors Cup at a mile, run at Calcutta daring Christmas week, resulted in the victory of Koubnix. which had Qnarrymah and Kings Fare as his nearest attendants. The winner was bred by Col. C. W. Mil kin. and foaled on April 5. 1*1 1. is a bay or brown bane by Minora- Saints Bay, by St. Prusquin, and was bought as a yearling by Mr. ••p.ob" Colling for 300 guineas. He carried the colors of the lat -Mr. F. Btoteart, anil among other races lie secured w.:s the Ayrshire Handicap of Ill". Later he passed into the possession of Lord Londonderry, who sold the horse privately in l.UV and lie then went to India. Qaarryasaa, the second, was als.j a good borne that did quite well fur Major I!. L. Kidston. who placid a reserve of 4. KM guineas on him when sent up to the December sales of 1917. but the highest bid was only 8,888 guineas. and he WUS led out of the ring. A week or so later, however, he was acquired privately by Mr. Clarence Bailey for the east. The ether big event of the Calcutta Christmas Meeting was decided on P.oxing Hay. this being the Viceroys Cap at a mile and three-i|iiarters. which provided a desperate finish, as it was only by a short head that First Flier defeated BaWbatX and One. which pair bad -heated lor second place. First Flier was bred at the Melton Stud, and foaled on April 10. 1011. is a dark hay horse by Henry the First — Grey Flier, by Friary. Mr. Parkinson bought him as a yearling for only 35 guineas, and to him he proved a rare bargain, securing stakes worth 5,480, including the Irish Derby, while he was also second in the Paldoyle Derby and Irish Sr. Leger. Mr. Parkinson sold First Flier at. Newmarket on January 15. ltlls. for 1.150 guineas to Mr. It. Itrendon. who sent the horse to India the following month.
