LACK OF INTEREST IN CAVALRY TEST NEW TORE, N. V.. Pebroary 4.— Kacing and ■mating men. who make up so large a part of the Itemount Association, are almost unanimous in ad-icatiiig thoroughbred race horses as s8Mi of cavalry SSOnatS. The endurance lest has, however, lnught forward new claimant- in the Arabians. the Morgans, the trotters and the hackneys, and it lnuks is if the high mettled racer would have to come out and prove his claim t else lose his place, .apt. Joseph R. Davis. :ill officer of the Bernoulli Association, an experienced steeplechase rider and formeily master of the Meadow Drook Fox Hounds. i- an advoete of the Percheron. the Suffolk or some oiler active type of draft stallion as a sii f army horses. He would mate them with mares ,,f the thoroughbred type on the theory that reaaiting foals v. nil grow up to have more of the habits anil actions of their thoroughbred dams than if they were ramnlBg in uaaMfie beside a Poichcroii or I other heavy mare in the cottbovd. Advocates of the thoroughbred sire mated with eeicmon mares will have a large setectiM of horses I to choose from if the Jockey Club or any of its I members can be induced to come inio the cavalry I race from Foil Ethan Allen to Camp Deveas. Ever ! since 1808 the breeding bureau of the Jockey ciui has been fOotcriBR the production of hi rses, eepre seating this crosM a ihe State of New York by putting out thoroughbred stallions for the free sjae of breeders and farmers. The chairman of the breeding bureau said recently that upward of 8,830 foals have been repotted to the Jockey Ch»b. I p to the present time the dub and its officers have shown a singular lack of interest or enthusiasm concerning the long-distance con-teat under cavalry conditions, but the partisans of t!e rival breeds of horses are ailing ah if they j intended to "smoke out" the thoroughbred racer I this year.
