HAVANA MEETING HIGHLY PROFITABLE PROFITABLEDestination Destination of the Owners Horses Riaers and Officials Soon to Depart Northward HAVANA Cuba March 1M Only a few days more remain of the present highly successful season of racing at Oriental Park and next Sunday March 2S the curtain will be rung down on the longest and by all odds the best meeting ever given on the island of Cuba Some idea of the manner in which the present meeting overshadows those that have preceded it may be gleaned when it is stated that the amount of money handled In the parimntuels Sunday March 11 when the jiKUMH Grand National Handicap was decided was twice as great as the amount handled on the biggest day of the preceding mooting The attendance ligures on the day in question also overtopped anything recorded in for ¬ mer years and reached a Jiew record for the track The crowd which included the President and his cabinet ollieers and people prominent in the business anil social life of the Cuban capital was estimated as being close to 15010 15010These These ligiiros will probably be surpassed on the closing day when the 10000 Cuban Derby will have its inaugural running Interest in this stake which will be over the distance of a mile and an eighth is already at high pitch among all classes of turf enthusiasts Its running will come as a lilting climax to a most successful meeting This stake had originally thirtythree nominations but declara ¬ tions have reduced the number of eligibles t twenty Present indications iioint to Senor A H Diaz line colt Blue Wrack as tin most probable favorite His victory over older horses in the Grand National entitles him to the distinction of being re ¬ garded as the most probable winner lie will be opposed by Ilerron Mile Dazio Black Prince Hor ¬ ace Iercli Orleans Cjrl and Eubih F The lirst two named appear to be the Diaz colts strongest rivals rivalsThe The removal of horses has ilreaily begun the Bowie track being the objective of most of them First to go are the small stables that will be raced at the early Maryland meeting The larger etab lisluiicntK however are junniining hero until the lose Kay Spence who had intended shipping the W V Thraves horses last week has reconsidered his decision and will remain until the end to saddle Mile Dazie for Mr Thraves in the Cuban Derby Pete Williams is another who has delayed his leave taking beyond the time originally planned plannedKentucky Kentucky will be the objective point of most of the important stables as well as a great majority of the riders Cannody the sensational develop ¬ ment of the meeting who leads the winning riders in America will probably go to Kentucky to ride as he will there be entitled to the apprentice allow ¬ ance He has already ridden more than one hundred winners at this meeting a feat never before accom ¬ plished here by an apprentice rider Jockey T Murray who was the riding1 riding1find find of 11111 and who is second to Cannody in the list of winning riders liere will go to Kentucky with the stable of Kay Spence Kcdoris Harry Garner Chiuvetta Eddie Bariies and F Hunt will also go to Kentucky to ride Mountain and Piekens are the best of the boys who will go to Maryland MarylandJudges Judges W II Shelley and C J Fitz Gerald will depart for their respective homes the day following the meetings close Shelley has already outlined his program for the Lexington meeting and will soon start work on the Churchill Downs nrogram book Ed Jasper who lias tilled the dual role of clerk of the scales and entry clerk will leave for his home iii Cincinnati lie is already assured of the position of entry clerk under Will Shelley on the Kentucky tracks Racing Secretary M Nathanson will remain for tiie automobile races and afterward go to his home in Chicago In all probability lie will not be associated in any capacity with any Canadian tracks the coming racing season General Manager Frank Rrnen will remain here for the annual meeting of the club early in April after which he will take a brief vacation in the Tnited States Starter Jim Milton will leave here in time to begin work at the Havre de Grace meeting His appointment as starter at Pimlico was well received by horsemen here
