DAMASK SHOWS GREAT SPEED IN MUI Has Been Sent to Lexington for Racing Prince Pal Works the Derby Distance 101 ISVILIK Ky April 12 Within thirtj minutes after an exceptionally hard rainfall ol several hours duration and over a track deep h mud Damask indulged in a sensational workmil of a mile in 1 at Churchill Downs this morn ¬ ing The colt had 1UO pounds on him and he wa shod with heavy training shoes without toe calks which made running in the mud anvthing but easv Jockey Kdilie Ambrose piloted hiin and he wa equipped with spurs while the horse bad on blink ¬ ers for the first time in his last three trials trialsMatinee Matinee Idol carrying only i pounds was selected as a pacemaker for Damask and he ran veneighths of a mile in front of him aftei T atihv hTnf i Ut srnrT7iv a ffo margin rirf early pace was faster than many races are run the first quarter being traversed in 23 the threeeighths in half mile in lSf five eighths in 102 three quarters in 117 = and seveneighths in Ii2s After covering the mile in 1 Damask only cantered an additional eighth and his time for the mile and an eighth was 2 0 Goldblatt said that the colt ran much faster in tlu first fractions than he figured he would but he put the blinkers on him In order to get a good workout under his belt and in this he was successful successfulThis This was the last appearance of the Whitnev colt here for the time being as he will be shipped t Lexington tomorrow morning Goldblatt and Ambrose will go over by motor after loading the Whitney horses horsesDamask Damask was not the whole center of attraction at the Downs this morning by any means as Prince Pal worked a mile and a quarter in 220 220i i and he did it easily When he came on the track to work shortly after 7 oclock it was raining harder than ever and he ran the entire way in tin downpour Jockey Unfits Shilling was on him and this made the colts weight about as much as he will have to carry in the Derby DerbyShilling Shilling let him run at a steady pace all the way Hi ran the first quarter in 2 i7 three eighths in Id half mile in threequarters in 121 Vf mile in 1 = mile and an eighth in 2OV 2OVAtta Atta Poy II also from the Ooldblatt stable made the muddy course look fast when he ran threequarters in lll 7 the fractions of which were 2tr 3 102 102Itlack Itlack Hackle one of the Monfort Jones Derby horses made his debut here this morning ami galloped a quarter of u mile in 27 The Jones establishment shipped in excellent health from Hot Springs SpringsP P 1 Prannon whose big stable of horses win ¬ tered here returned today from his home in Kan ¬ sas City where he has been visiting for several weeks lie was accompanied by jockey Karl Pool who did his stable riding last year yearKd Kd Trotter was forced call off his trip with tlie Florisant Stable horses to Havre de Grace at the last minute The railroad officials would guarantee to get his caroiad of thoroughbreds only as far as Cincinnati owing to the unsettled labor conditions on the railways He did not care to take a chance on getting left there thereMinute Minute Man a Derby eligible ran a mile in 1H this morning the first fiveeighths in 101 The offices of tlu Kentucky Jockey Club which are located in one of the prominent business build ¬ ings in the heart of the city will be moved to the Churchill Downs race track tomorrow and will in tin future be permanently located there
