IMPROVEMENTS AT THE JAMAICA TRACK TRACKNKW NKW YOIMv X V April 1M The improvements inaugurated by the new management of the Metro ¬ politan Jockey Club last fall were inspected by President Corbel and Secretary Edwards of that organization Thursday They found the work which includes a partial remodeling of the clubhouse addi ¬ tion and the judges stand practically completed I Dy the change the patrons of the club inclosure will be shielded from the east wind which occa ¬ sionally blows from Jamaica Day DayThe The lawns are in splendid condition and under the stimulating effect of a liberal coat of manure are so far advanced that Superintendent Maher will have them cut on Monday next The infield which was formerly bare looking the top soil having been removed to benefit the track will reveal a more rheerful aspect this spring lioeause of a Literal fertilization fertilizationThe The track itself is ready to race over today There are not many horses stabled at Jamaica at present but a number of stables are expected daily Some of them notably those from Kentucky which include the horses of Lawrence Waterbury are be ¬ ing held up by the disarrangement of the trans portatityi systems of the country countryJamaica Jamaica should have a splendid season of racing under its new management which is not only popu ¬ lar but progressive Miv Corbet t being a turfman of the old school who knows racing from its every angle AVith a bumper crop of entries garnered by Secretary Kdwards all that is necessary for a fine meeting is settled weather and the prospects are good for that
