NEVADA STOCK FARMS CROP OF FOALS Desmond Sire Athcling Has Especially Fine Ap ¬ pearing Progeny in His Yearlings KY F L MKEXXEY MKEXXEYSAX SAX FKAXCISCO Cal May 18 The record crop of foals in the thoroughbred breedin es ¬ tablishments of the Pacific coast this season is at George Wingfields Xevadn Stock Farm where twentynine lusty colts and fillies have arrived The sucklings have as sires the English stallions Atheling by Desmond Wood Daisv by fvllene and Honey wood by Polymelus Honey Bird bv Friars Balsam while the dams are of the most fashionable English and American families The frisky little fellows began to arrive in January and have thrived wonderfully in the shadow of the Sierra Xevada Mountains Horsemen who have sten them say the babies are well formed sturdy looking youngsters with plenty of bone boneSome Some of the sucklings are brothers and sisters to the yearlings that were wintered at the State Fail Grounds and sent back to the Xevada farm two months ago There are eignteen yearlings thir ¬ teen having Atlieling as daddy and four are by Hoiieywood A beautiful brown filly is by the Domino stallion Disguise now standing sit Wickiup ICancho from the St Avonicus man Maid o Avon A few of the babies are also related li the Hoiieywood twoyearolds being campaigned on eastern tracks in Mr Wingfields colors colorsThe The yearlings will be taken up about August 1 and prepared for racing as twoyearolds Spe ¬ cial interest attaches to the band as it includes the first of tin progeny of Atheling to go to tin races There are ten fillies and eight colts In line with Mr Wingfields policy of breeding his own brood mares four of the fillies will be re ¬ tired to the stud at the end of their threeyear oia season Among the fillies to be retained is a handsome bay by Atheling Celesta by Scmpro nius Celesta holder of the American record for a mile and a sixteenth is one of the most valued of the Xevada Stock Farm brood mares as both her sire Sempronius by Wisdom Hamptonia by Hampton and her dam Itezti are rich in brood mare blood Other fillies that promise to tlo well as producers in the years to come are a chestnut miss by Moneywood Lady Vera by Woolsthorpe a chestnut by Atheling Wiltrtide S by Ossary a bay filly by Atheling Envy by Kenilworth ml a brown by Atheling Koselawn bv Orsini OrsiniMr Mr Wing field is especially desirous of keeping tin Agnes family blood dominant in American breeding as it has been so many years in Kngland and accordingly this year mated three English mares with tlje Ormonde stallion Ossary sire of Sir Wilfred Ossary is hale and hearty at his advanced age of twentyfour and it is confidently expected all of the mares will be in foal
