SOME OF THE TIJUANA REVELATIONS Young Eiders Who Show Promise and Horses Which Raced Best at the Meeting BY F E MKEXXEY MKEXXEYSAX SAX FRAXCISCO Cal June 10 Aside from the performances of War God Breeze Wynnewood Baladin They Shall Xot Pass and other handicap horses at the recently closed meeting at Tijuana the interest of the followers of the sport out this way was centered in the phenomenal starting of Harry Morrissey and the promising saddle efforts of youngsters new to racing The wonderful suc ¬ cess achieved by Morrissey was easily one of the outstanding features of the Ion meeting The popular Kentuckian won much favor by his uniform dispatching of clumsy fields in other years at the Lower California course but all his work of those years was eclipsed at the meeting ending May 31 The class of the horses in a majority of the races was low and quite a number of the riders were green Despite the handicaps he was laboring under the starter made mighty few mistakes in all the one hundred and eight days Morrissey seemed to have some mesmeric influence both on horse and rider keeping them in perfect alignment and then springing the lever at the psychological mo ¬ ment mentAmong Among the apprentice jockeys at the meeting one or two undoubtedly will develop into real horse ¬ men Just who the boys are that will mature into IDlO or lLl Tod Sloans there is wide divergence of opinion among the regulars The older riders at Tijuana jockeys who have long passed the peak of success select young Charley Buell as the one to win most laurels in the future This Iniy is not as flashy or apparently as aggressive as G Yeargin Charley Taylor or some of the other boys but good critics say he has fine seat good pair of hands and best of all knows how to husband a horses speed for the final brush Yeargin probable will make good through innate confidence in himself even if not possessed of abil ¬ ity of the highest order He went on to an eastern track at the close of Tijuana to ride for the stable of Frank J Kelley of Chicago Little Roberts whose contract was purchased by Milo Shields departed frames the southern tr M 1i 1ip p w tks prior to the wIndifpc Uiiderrtheiiroper tutelage he promises to develop into a good rider riderWar War God tin wellknown nnsexed son of Uncle and Tehera was easily the best horse at the meet ¬ ing shouldering tons of weight as a highclass racer should The last six weeks he was not sent to the barrier being rested for a campaign on the metropolitan circuit If appearances are not deceptive the Macomber castoff will give a good account of himself in the important events to which he has been nominated He is still the sad horse of yore taking no noticeable interest in training gallop or preliminary but all horse when the gate goes up upBaladin Baladin by Xegofol Dame Beauty a develop ¬ ment of last winters racing at Havana won the An Revoir Handicap at Tijuana having retained his form all through the winter and spring months War God Baladin Wynnewood and Breeze the topnotchera in the handicap division at Tijuana are geldings They Shall Xot Pass a daughter of Fayctte and Australina was the best of her sex but hardly good enough to com ¬ pete with the geldings She is only a threeyear old however and is bound to improve Her dam Australiua is by Montana Zcalandia Watcrboy one of the best horses bred at Rancho del Paso was by Watercress Xcalandia
