LATONIA RACING OVER A GOOD TRACK Sterling Redeems Himself in Winning the Feature Race Monsoon a Good One BY J L DEMPSEY DEMPSEYLATOXIA LATOXIA Ky June 15 C C Van Meters frequently disapiwinting Sterling furnished the un ¬ expected this afternoon by a sparkling exhibition in the mile race which he won somewhat easily and that after his winning chance was seemingly hopeless due to his faulty beginning causing him to be far back in the early running He moved up with a rush however after going a half mile and taking the lead just before reaching the stretch turn held sway to win from Claude Brown with East Indian just failing to overhaul the latter for second place Mysterious Girl was held as the favorite before the race and she flattered exten ¬ sively by leading for nearly threequarters but when she began tiring she fell back fast and was far in the rear at the finish finishA A steadily drying track was the order through otit thn afternoon and it seemed to favor those with suspicious underpinning or a liking for soft going The weather was again hot but it did not affect the iittcndacc in the slightest slightestSome Some interesting racing developed in some of the dashes but most of the winners scored easily enough enoughMonsoon Monsoon the Peter QuInceyMattie C colt carry ¬ ing the silks of D F Swift showed himself a youngster that may have to 1m reckoned with in some of the rich stake races that will have their decision later on for he triumphed over Ace High winner of the Spring Trial Stakes in pronounced slyle He indulged Ace High with the lead for a half mile but when called on he flashed by the Applegatc youngster with the utmost ease easeThe The mile and a quarter dash third on the curd was only a mere canter for Kimpalong to show the way Convoy landing in second place and Plantarede third thirdK K 15 McLeans Lough Red by the Irish sire Lough Foyle bred at McLeans Virginia farm broke out of the maiden ranks in the second race and had to l e much the best to win for he was a sufferer from interference at the start nnd had to run around the others but he won easily with Gold Digger and Court View following followingFern Fern Hjyidjer f uraishcilallUp5IupseiMii l h pf irst race which she won after a drive with Marie Maxim and Bon Jour Brig of War in this an outstanding favorite quit badly after going a lialf inile inileMatt Matt J Winn general manager here and also vicepresident and director of the Laurel track left tonight for the latter point to attend an important meeting of the Laurel directors Among many matters that will come up for consideration is on dealing witli the extensive improvements to be made on the Laurel plant before the fall racing racingJockey Jockey T Nolan will ride the J K L Ross horses in their races here hereFor For cutting across in front of the others shortly after the start of the second race jockey Dave Nicol was suspended for ten days
