DEMPSEYSARATOGA SARATOGA X Y July 9 Saratoga at present is undergoing the change from a convention rendez vous to a racing Mecca due to the constant ar ¬ rivals of racing followers and horsemen and the exodus of delegates to the Republican state con ¬ vention whose business was finished yesterday The Knight of Pythias convention concludes its ses ¬ sion tomorrow and this will release the leading lintel facilities necessary for the accommodation of the immense throng expected to be here for the opening day on Monday MondayThe The advance brigade of turfmen is not as numer ¬ ous as in the past two years and it might be duo to the fact that the Canadian tracks are in full swing this year However predictions by the wist net supposed to be fully in touch with conditions nre that this will be the banner season here and that the Saratoga Racing Association will be called on to entertain the biggest racing attendances in the local history of the sport This may all be true HO far as the general public is concerned but it is almost certain that there will be a falling off In the professional element that has contributed to the success of the racing here in the past four years yearsRacing Racing star thatliava perfprracd n cr ry track in tnls country will find a common meeting ground here and the sport should in every sense come up to the roseate advance notices The easternowned tracks however are conceded to be superior to the invaders and the richest plums will probably be Karnered by horses owned in this section of the country countryKcntuckians Kcntuckians usually counted on to give eastern owners a tussle for turf honors here are decidedly in the minority this year and with the exception of the stables brought here by E R liradley M J Lowenstein 1 S Ward 1 Keono and Ed Trotter will not figure to any noticeable degree Many of the Kentuckians preferred resting their strings or engaging in the Canadian racing while the meeting is in progress here hereThere There will be no shortage of horses but they are not as numerous as they were in past years The riding colony is also plentiful and in this respect Kentucky will hold its own for jockeys like L Lyke C Robinson Stack H Kennedy F Wilson and others who have been riding steadily at Lexington Louisville and Latonia will carry silks here and measure up to the full standard of their eastern rivals rivalsIDEAL IDEAL WEATHER PREVAILS PREVAILSPresent Present weather conditions are ideal and the main track was all activity this morning Fast trials were the order in numerous instances and the easterners were forced to take notice of J O Keenes Pagan Pun which covered fiveeighths un ¬ der the minute mark The outstanding trial of the day however was that of Sir Barton which turned a mile and a quarter in easy style in 0ii hard held The gallop showed that this sturdy J K L Ross mainstay is back in good racing fettle and must be regarded seriously for the opening day feature in which lie is intended to make his Saratoga debut Mad Hatter and Wildair were also opening handicap eligible that showed fine preliminaries this muming Wildair moved along faster than trainer Rowe desired and the rider had to be flashed a signal to slow down downArrivals Arrivals of horses were numerous during the day and included the big freight special of year ¬ lings from Kentucky intended for the sales in as to the price paid by former jockey Lloyd Gentry for the horses formerly nicd in the silks of J 15 Elwell From an authoritative source it is learned that Gentry paid the Elwell estate 30000 cash
