MILITARY RAGE AT BOWIE r4 Starters in !t Leased and Ridden By Army Officers. - Le Gardon Repeats His Laurel Success Achieved in a Similiar Race. BOWIE, Md.. November 20. This was military day at Prince George Park nnd a notable gathering of army officers and government officials was present. The American Remount Purse was provided as the military feature, all the starters being either owned or leased by armyjfflcers and ridden by them. The French-bred Negofol gelding, which won the army race at Laurel last month in the colors of Col. W. 31. Gambriel, scored again for the colonel. He was well ridden, being saved in the early running and coming fast through the stretch,, easily drew away in the last eighth. Jay Bird, ridden by Major S. Koch, was second and Regular, with Major Stevenson in the saddle, was third. The race evoked great enthusiasm and the winner and his rider were given a great ovation. The Lexington Purse at a mile and a sixteenth was the chief offering of the regular racing and. it brought to the post a band of bad horses. The veteran Jockey James Butwell, who is the leading rider of the year, did not leave the result in doubt long, stealing a big lead with War Note and easily holding it to the end, while the favorite, Wyoming, wns having a tough time of it. ,Thc .proverbial blanket would have covered the first three horses at the finish of the first race. The three crossed the winning line with the smallest of margins separating them. Sikhim would have won had the distance been a little longer. Long shots absorbed all the attention in the second race, all three placed horses bringing handsome returns in the mutuels. Explosive was the winner, with Black Top second and Foam third. "Nohant, Blarney Stone and Chinnie Walsh, of which much aVub expected, finished many lengths back. C. Robinson rode his second winner of the afternoon when he brought home Sandy Beal ahead of Siren Maid in the sixth race after a well contested race. The latter showed the way to the last eighth before giving away to the winner. The stable of J. W. McClelland and Xalapa Farm was shipped to Havre de Grace today. For careless triding in the second race, which caUsed interference to other horses, jockey Rich-creek was suspended for two days. George M. Odom will return to New York and olose his racing season with this weeks sport. He recently turned down a flattering offer to train a tiljj eastern stable and will train a public stable. King Plaudit will be brought back to the races next year and Odom will have him taken to his Gravcsend stable December 1. Jefferson Livingston lias some horses in Odoms care and he proposes buying ready-made horses in the spring. Admiral Cary T. Grayson, Major-Gcneral H. L. Rogers, quartermaster U. S. A.; Brigadier-General C. " R. Krautkoff, Quartermasters Corps, U. S. A.; Rriiradicr-General S. D. Rockenbach, commander Tank Corps, nnd Brigadier-General Carson were among the distinguished visitors wlio witnessed the running of the third race today.
