HAVANA RACING THRILLING Close and Interesting Finishes Mark Saturdays Sport at Oriental Park. HAVANA Cuba, November 27. Saturdays racing at Oriental Park was replete with; thrills and close finishes, the winners being in doubt until the official placing was announced in all but the fourth, in which Brother Maclean was under restraint, after leading throughout by a .comfortable margin. Prince of Como was the favorite in this race and his performance indicated that lie was not quite up to a bruising contest. Winull raced to his name and led his opponents throughout in the first race, but was tiring badly and Just lasted to score- by a neck from the fast closing Boher-Na-Breena. The second race was practically a repetition of the first, Elga showing the way from the start, only to tire near the end and barely outlasted Count Boris. .The latter would have Avon in-another strides Another close finish came in the third race, Mayrose getting up right at the end to snatch victory from Lenora P., which had set the puce from the rise of the barrier. Marty Lou was a disappointing favorite in the fifth race, finishing third to Pas de Chance and Avion. Only a head separated the last two at the end. Fickle Fancy wound up a day of exciting finishes by having a half length margin over Doctor D. hi the closing ilah. The winners had to be ridden out to withstand the closing rush of the favorite Joseph Healy has taken over jockey J. Mr. Reiu-heimers residence was at Shecpshead Bay. and he was a well-known trainer on the American turf. Four years ago he trained a stable of horses at Oriental Park for Samuel Nolan. Mose Goldblatt was advised by cable that James Rowe was sending him a number of yearlings belonging to narry Payne Whitney. The youngsters were bred at the Brookland Farm and are due to arrive here early next week. II. Paul Powers, owner of a stable at. the local track, trained by W. M. Slieedy, has arrived and taken u lease on a house in Almuudarez. There were a number of arrivals from the States ami this helped to swell the attendance, which was cm- of tho largest Saturday crowds that ever turned out at Oriental Park. Donna Grafton, named to start in the seventh race tomorrow, will be ridden by Tommy Burns, a son of Hie old rider of wide reputation. Some day next week Austin McLaughlin, son of James McLaughlin, will wake his debut as a jockey, when he rides one of Senor E. Alvarez horses. The boy is under contract to the Alvarez stable. The youngster is keen and alert and anxious to follow in the footsteps of his sire.
