The stockholders of the Maryland Jockey Club in their annual meeting Monday last passed the following resolution: "Resolved, by the stockholders of the Maryland Jockey Club, That they concur in the view adopted in England and in France, and often expressed here, that the racing of horses is an Institution for the development of the breed of horses, recognized as an essential industry of the country, and for the amusement of the public, rather than one for the profit of the race track owners. "That they welcome the appointment of the racing commission with broad powers, enabling them to put into practice these principles: "That, whether compelled to do so or not, they will gladly submit 1o the racing commission the right to value their plant and necessary capital and to determine the return the stockholders should receive upon such necessary investment, any additional earnings to be expended under the guidance of the commission for the development of breeding, and for improvements for the comfort of the patrons ot racing. "Resolved, further. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the racing commission, with the request that these general principles lie put into effect." Of the resolution and its declarations Secretary W. P. Riggs of the club said after the meeting: "The resolution menus just what it says. The Maryland Jockey Club has always been for keeping racing on the highest possible plane and has never commercialized it. It never will, and seeks to let the public know its views."
