NO LETUP AT LOUISVILLE Training Operations Continue Despite Adverse Weather Latest Turf Gossip LOUISVILLE Ivy April 15 Horsemen here were much surprised this moraine when they found Churchill Downs several inches deep in mud while fast going prevailed at Douglas Park A freak wind and rain storm swept over the southern section of the city late yesterday afternoon It seemingly spent its entire force at the Downs as not enough water fell in Beechmont to hardly dampen the race track there The high wind blew the windows out of the judges stand at the Downs and also loosened the seveneighths post there Both tracks were well occupied just the same this morning and at Douglas Park a number of fast moves were reported Several of the Kentucky Derby ellgibles were given work at short distances today and they will work farther tomorrow Among them were Leonardo II and Ben Homme which ran a half mile together in 5045 Jockey Schuttinger had to restrain Leonardo II hard to keep him aside of his stablemate which was ridden by T Jarvis They covered the first quarter in 25 25James James W McClelland said today that he will ship six of the Xalapa Farm horses to Lexington on Wednesday and among them will be the two Derby colts He has not decided upon the other four to take as yet Both Leonardo II and Bon Homme are dead fit to race right now over any distance any track or at any time for any amount of money and they certainly will fill their stake engagements at Lexington was McClellands answer this morning when asked regarding his im ¬ mediate plans with the two colts Despair another threeyearold in the Xalapa barn is on the shelf nursing au injury sustained while galloping since his arrival here He struck himself but it is not thought that the injury will set him back much in his training trainingTrainer Trainer C C Van Meter has let up on training Brother Batch for the Derby and an operation is in order for him in the near future in an effort to correct the ailment which has been affecting his wind windr r Jockey lrniclKBrs on wiltUkrirf ha stuhln ridhts for Captain II C Bmibury and C J Brockmillcr on the Kentucky circuit circuitJ J Kahn shipped Lord Allen T J Pendergasts fast twoyearold to Lexington this morning Jockey F Smith went there Six of the Iloscoe Goose John S Ward horses will be transferred to Lexing ¬ ton on Wednesday Jockey H J Burke will go there to ride them themOf Of the twentyone horses in the Florlsant Stable there is only one twoyearold this being Anglun Maid a filly which was bred by W K Harrington her owner She is a daughter of Dick Finnell Peggy OMalley and was the first foal of that mare Her dam was recently mated with North Star III Trainer Ed Trotter will not take any of the Flori sant horses to Lexington LexingtonTrainer Trainer Dick Vestal has changed his plans and instead of shipping Centimeter to Lexington to ¬ morrow will wait until Tuesday The colt was given a slow gallop of a mile today He will work him a short distance tomorrow and on Sunday morning he will send him along for a mile and a quarter at top speed at the Downs DownsThe The twoyearold colts recently purchased by Frank E Brown for 12000 from the Xalapa Farm Stable were turned over to Dr C K Iticliards to train today by L It Boyle who wintered them themPat Pat Dunne again came from Lexington this morn ¬ ing While he was herb Dan Lelian made arrange ¬ ments with him to mate Brig of War with Under Fire
